Crispy Chili Beef

500g rump steak

2 garlic cloves

2 red chillies 

1 onion 

4 spring onions 

3cm chunk ginger 

30g soy sauce

30g rice wine vinegar

40g sriracha 

30g tomato ketchup

40g caster sugar

1 egg

75g cornflour

Salt and pepper 

Vegetable oil


  1. Slice the onion, spring onion and chillies and grate the garlic and ginger. 
  2. Slice the rump steaks into very thin slices and put them in a large bowl. Mix the egg in well then add the cornflour, salt and pepper. Combine well until the steak is evenly coated.
  3. Heat up a generous amount of oil in a wok and add the beef in small amounts and fry until crispy. Take the steak out of the pan using a slotted spoon and continue until all the beef is cooked. 
  4. Add the onion into the pan and fry for a couple of minutes. Then add in the spring onions, chillies, garlic and ginger.
  5. After 2 mins, stir in the ketchup, sriracha, vinegar, sugar and soy sauce. Reduce it down for a few minutes.
  6. Place the beef back in the pan and cook for 2 mins.
  7. Serve with rice or noodles.
